Parliament |
and the flagpole. In 1947, Cissie led a march of thousands to protest the education proposal for a separate Colored Affairs Department. People were enraged. When Cissie arrived at Parliament, she climbed the flagpole at 50 years of age, saying, "Jan Smuts, my people are here to see you." Naz stated she couldn't see anything because she was at the back of the march so she would say "...legend has it..." Shahena says that Cissie climbed the flagpole on the other side of Parliament, but these poles, flying the new South African flags, as a symbol of what she did is fine with me.

One of the lovely bays -- like Kalk Bay -- where folks are preoccupied with a seal that is being fed. We also had book launches at Timbuktu Books in Claremont, near Cape Town, Exclusive Books in Westville (Durban) and Exclusive Books at Melrose Arch (Johannesburg). Timbuktu Books had one of the most beautiful collections of Islamic, scholarly works that any of us had ever seen.

ALERT, ALERT: "the TRUTH is on the WALLS" is now available through amazon on Kindle for USD 9.99, Kindle Unlimited (for those of you who subscribe) and as little as USD 17.33 for a paperback copy. It is also available on kalahari.com for R210 or around USD 19-20 ($19-$20), plus shipping. Kalahari offers a good rate for getting ten or more books delivered. However, you will have to check the present rate. Barnes and Noble has it too, but the price in the U.S. is $37.00 and it is not available in the Nook Store. Shahena and I have been expecting a widespread distribution of the biography in North America since Spring 2012.

The nonfiction was published August 2011 by David Philip, an imprint of New Africa Books (NAB), in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Per NAB, the biography can be purchased at bookstores throughout the Republic. For a list of stores, please go to the Facebook page of Donna Ruth Brenneis, which can be accessed through the Facebook icon found at the beginning of this website. This publishing house was started by the reputable David Philip 40 years ago. “To call David Philip a publishing giant would be to do him an injustice. He was a colossus who shaped the modern South African English canon more than anyone else. The catalogue of South African books that he first breathed into life upon establishing his imprint in 1971 is a near-inexhaustible source of literary nourishment. Many of us [South Africans] were raised on it.”
